The 283 Engine

This 1963 Sport Coupe Convertible had big news under the hood. For about 3,150 you got the V8 engine that cost an extra . The ever-popular 283-cubic-inch V8 engine jumped 20 horsepower, to 195. Corrosion-fighting engineering improvements for the '63 included inner front fenders, an aluminized muffler and "flush-and-dry" rocker panels. Brakes were now self-adjusting and a new altenator (replacing the old-style generator) helped lengthen battery life. Impala set another all-time sales record in 1963. It was the best-selling four-door. The biggest-selling two-door. And, it was America's favorite convertible, too! From sedans to Super Sports, there seemed to be an Impala for almost anyone in 1963.

1963 Impala Trivia

Our Impala was a feature article in the National Magazine, "Late Great Chevys." This magazine was a major resource for us in locating parts during restoration. We still depend on them while still searching for parts that have not been available. Our Impala was featured twice in this magazine. In the California Wine Classic Event our Impala was the car chosen in a pictoral feature in the program for the Wine Classic. In the National "Good Guys News Magazine," our Impala was shown with an article about our win for the "Coolest Chevy" Award.

Magazine and News Articles

We enjoy being invited to attend the Hillsborough Concours d' Elegance. Unlike other Concours Events, you have to be invited. We have been invited twice, and we love to go! There are many volunteers available to make sure you feel welcome, and have everything you need. The cars and owners that are selected to win an award are given an envelope that says you have been selected for a class award. The three cars in each class are then lined up three abreast to receive their award. If you are called first it means your car has placed third. Our Impala was called first. We were thrilled to be one of the cars to be awarded in our class. The Hillsborough Concours is a wonderful event!

Silverado Concours d' Elegance

We showed our Impala at the Silverado Concours d' Elegance for several years in the "Spotlight Display." This category is for invited vehicles that are not old enough to be judged in the Concours. In 2000 the Silverado Concours moved from the grounds of the Silverado County Club to Mare Island in Vallejo, California. At the new facility our Impala was placed for judging.
